IDLY SAMBAR

 Idly and sambar is the best combo like Romeo and Juliet.I would prefer sambar rather than chutneys for Idly/dosai.Mini idly sambar tastes divine when topped with ghee
This sambar is easy to prepare because there is no grinding part in this.I have prepared this sambar with carrot only.You can also use brinjal,drumstick,potato.
INGREDIENTS
Toor dal
½ cup
Tomato
1
Carrot
2
Ginger
A small piece
Sambar powder
1 tbsp
Turmeric powder
A pinch
Tamarind
A small goose berry size
Mustard seeds,Urad dhal
½ tsp
Jeera
½ tsp
Oil   
2 tsp
Small Onion
10
Dry red chilly
1
Hing
A pinch
Curry leaves,Coriander leaves
As needed
Salt
To taste
STEP BY STEP PICTURES
Chop the carrots,onion,tomato,ginger.Soak toor dal for 15 mins.
Soak tamarind in hot water.
Extract tamarind juice and mix it with the sambar powder.
In a pressure cooker heat oil and add carrot,tomato.Saute it.
Now add the soaked toor dal.
Pour little water.Add turmeric powder.Pressure cook it for 2 whistles.
Open the cooker and mash the dal well.
Pour the sambar powder mixture.
Add salt.Boil until the raw smell goes out.
In a kadai heat oil and temper with mustard seeds,urad dal,jeera,dry red chilly,curry leaves,hing.Then add small onions.Fry until it turns pink.
Pour it over the boiling dal.
Transfer it to a serving bowl.Garnish with coriander leaves.
I used the water bottle lid to make mini idly.
Take the mini idlies in a bowl.
Pour the sambar over it
 Garnish with chopped coriander and onions.
Either the samabr or the idly should be hot.
Drizzle with ghee before serving.
